Revival Aane Hejje

Aane hejje saree also known as anekal sarees. This is a cotton saree which was in vogue 60 years ago, predominantly woven and worn in and around anekal (rural district of Bangalore). The specialty of the saree is the border, where a segment resembles an elephant head (diamond) and it’s foot prints (the vertical lines in either side or the diamond). Hence the name Aane hejje or Aane kal which over time became Anekal. Elephant in Kannada in Aane. The horizontal stripes on the saree denotes the unity or togetherness among the people.
